SUMMARY
- Within the multiverse, new universes are born out of three forces that are collectively named the Astrums. Alongside its birth come three guardians, the Overseers, to prolong the life of a universe. On the opposite, one of the Fathomless forms, to shorten the existence of a universe. They do this by setting the end of dawn in motion, which is a series of events that will lead the universe to its demise, essentially forcing it to be born anew.
- The end of dawn is only brought to universes that are imbalanced and chaotic. The Aether was born as such, thus doomed to falter as any other chaotic universe. However, the Aether was quite odd in this regard, as it repeated its cycle of imbalance over and over again- Somehow never being erased completely from the multiverse. The cause of this, is the inevitable extinction of its first lifeforms, the Divine, which repeats itself each cycle as well. Why this development happens with each new attempt, is unknown.
- The Divine, as their name implies, are beings with divine properties. In the early beginnings of each cycle, the Divine utilise their powers to do as they wish within the Aether. Mostly to create new celestial objects, as if the universe is their playground. There is nothing at stake, everything is peaceful and free, though this comes at the cost of no evolution or change. This causes more imbalance in the Aether as a whole.
- This imbalance eventually leads to the collapse and merging of at least two galaxies, that are situated at the centre of the universe. While galactical events repeat with each new cycle, specifics never do. Its first lifeforms, always divine, yet never consistent in appearance. Celestial objects may be less or more with different properties. The inherent properties of magic also differs each cycle.
- After the Divine extinction, their remnants turn into magic, that weaves through the universe itself. Any survivors are rendered immortal. It's as if it becomes one with it, changing its laws and physics. It fuels the creation of beings that are lesser versions of Divine, called the Dexagon. It fuels the creation of magic-infused celestial objects, as big as galaxies to as small as comets. It fuels the creation of magic-infused life. The extinction forces a change, and thus, evolution.
- Thus, starts the Vita Era, which fills the Aether with mortal life where possible. However, this is where the imbalance of the Aether truly comes into play, as eventually the imbalance will catch up to it. Cycles have ended on mortals being torn apart by an abundant growth of black holes. Cycles have ended on magic turning so unstable, everything somehow collapsed on itself. Cycles have ended prematurely with an end of dawn brought, before its first lifeforms could even form. And so on, and so forth.
- The Aether is meant to repeat its deathly cycle over and over again, thanks to the very magic that never fails to become part of its integral structure. The universe, as a result, is regarded as a hopeless case that can never be solved within the multiverse. And to conclude never, is quite a bold statement, within a context of infinite space and time. The only way out, is if something were somehow different. Different in a way, that it would be significant enough for change.
LAWS
With the birth of each universe, its balance, ingredients and laws are created by the three forces. Below are the ones that make up the Aether as it is today.
- Astrums
Also known as the three forces or primordial forces, the Astrums hold the expanse of the multiverse together and thus existence itself. These are the inherent properties that belong in every single universe. They are necessary for the creation of one, and must be in balance for the universe to be as such also. Each force handles its own aspect of the universe. - The 1st Astrum Opscurus
The first force envelopes the intangible, the unknown, the beyond. It's the force that brings forth chaos and silence to a universe. The abstract anomaly that reappears every millennia. The uncertainty of what is past the event horizon. The means to an end. - The 2nd Astrum Noscere
The second force envelopes the tangible, the known, the nearby. Noscere is the force that brings forth harmony and noise to a universe. The tangible that holds a moon close to its planet. The certainty of the stars lighting your way at night. The start of something new. - The 3rd Astrum Esse
The last force envelopes the state of being. Esse is the force that brings forth life and death to a universe. The start and its accompanied end. A hybrid of opposites, it weaves all there is into one, so it may be, it may evolve, it may exist. Without this force, a universe would fall apart immediately upon its creation. - Aether
Everything that is, something brought forth by Noscere, takes the shape of galaxies, planets, stars, and so on, all the mass and what exists in-between nothing within the universe- It's something. Aether is the primary ingredient for this realm, hence naming it the Aether universe. - Etherus
Everything that isn't, something brought forth by Opscurus, takes the shape of all the emptiness in-between everything within the universe- It's nothing, it's vacuum, it's space itself. When something is said to have gone to Etherus, it means it's unknown where it exactly is located. - Magic
The life forces left by extinct Divine after the collapse of galaxies, become part of the very universe itself. It turns into magic, causing more chaos in the universe, yet it would be the one cause for the Aether to relive its doomed cycle infinitely. The opportunity to try over until it was done right. - Overseers
Three guardians that age with the universe since its birth. Each is to preserve the balance of their own aspect, as if they are the embodiments of the Astrums. They oversee the realm from their own pocket dimension, created out of the intangible. Generally they do not intervene.. Though, there have been some exceptions in case of the Aether. - Fathomless
Something fathomless and unknown has been developing since trillions of years, beyond anyone's knowledge. It started sometime in the Exodus Era once the void was made.. And accelerated in Vita, when one particular Overseer made the first exception in his existence. - Void
The void is a dimension of unknown proportion, tied to the Aether. It is one of many creations that the magic of the Divine left behind, adding to the chaos in the universal balance. It's a manifestation of the Ether, as the void holds nothing within it. However, the void became inhabited with something at some point, disturbing it.
TIMELINE
Each cycle follows a timeline as the universe grows and develops. With the Aether inevitably being one of chaos, its lifespan is incredibly disturbed and shortened. Below is an outline of how an average cycle plays out in the Aether.
- Genesis Era trillions of years
The birth of a universe, forming its first laws and physics with the ingredients of its creation. The Overseers are born simultaneously, though these beings watch the universe from afar, as to not intervene directly. The intial explosion allows the universe its energy, forming its first celestial bodies and expanding from then on. - Divine Era trillions of years
After the stabilisation of the celestial objects, the first lifeforms that form are the Divine. This era goes on until the inevitable extinction of them. - Exodus Era billions of years
The era that occurs immediately after the collapse of two or more central galaxies. It wipes out the Divine, their remnants affecting the universe. It's the era that kickstarts the universe to change tremendously. - Vita Era a few trillion years
Once life is born on the celestial objects themselves, rather than out of them, the Vita Era starts. It's the era of true mortals, life evolving within various galaxies in the universe on their own accord. - Reprise Era a few million years
At a certain point, magic inevitably causes anomalies to occur at an alarming rate, due to its abundance present within the Aether. These anomalies take a different shape each cycle, but always prove to be deadly to the universe and its inhabitants. The Aether is eventually made devoid of all there is, practically turned to ash and forced to restart once again. The Reprise Era usually happens long before a Fathomless has meddled to start the end of dawn. Ironically, this results in a premature death of the Aether, yet it's survived longer than any other chaotic universe.
THE ALTERNATIVE
Something different is on the horizon this time.
Now the question remains.. What is that something different? Multiple events are at play, each with differences that ended up significant. And so it contributes towards a change of fate, possibly steering the Aether into harmony for the first time in forever.
